The passage of California Proposition 8, which amends the state constitution to prohibit gays from marrying, tempers Wednesday's euphoria. Particularly in light of the support black voters gave the measure (seven in ten supported it -- far greater than any ethnic group).
Analysts here played down the idea that high black voter turnout would spell defeat for gay marriage. Sadly, we were wrong.
