As long time Eagles fans we have to mention that our hearts go out to Randall Cunningham, a black quarterback who paved the way for all the rest, for the loss of his son.

Allen Iverson back to the 76ers? Just the idea of it sounds too storybook to be real.

BUY

Andre Braugher

Sure, you don't meet a lot of black 40-something men named Owen, but if there's an actor who can pull it off, it's Braugher, who we look forward to seeing in the new TNT drama "Men of a Certain Age".

SELL

Tiger Woods

Hmmm. Between knee surgery and the latest domestic incident Woods breaking Jack Nicklaus' record doesn't seem as inevitable.

The first full week of an already tumultuous July ends on an up-note.

WINNERS

The Williams Sisters (VSW) 27.19 +3.57 +13.13%

For some unknown reason Serena is still ranked No. 2 in women's tennis (this despite currently holding three of the four major single's titles), if last week's Wimbledon final showed anything it's that these sisters are on top.

h/t to uglyblackjohn -- shouldn't have missed this.

Intrepid children of color attempt to break stereotypes by venturing into chlorinated water and what do they get for their trouble but a big old heap of old school Philly racism.
"There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club," John Duesler, President of The Valley Swim Club said in a statement.
This coming from the guy trying to defend the action.  Holy shit.  And this AFTER they paid to be there.  Guess American doesn't only see green anymore after all.

This is the town where the black mayor dropped a bomb on black people, so I can't say that anything surprises me anymore.

The taser death of Robert Mitchell in Detroit, the tragic "friendly fire" shooting of a black police officer in New York and last week's Compton murder of a high school football star give three radically different examples of how the streets are still a dangerous place for black men -- even in the Obama era.

WINNERS

Black Men in Philadelphia (BMPPA) 4.31 +1 +23.2%

Even in the Illadel negroes aren't crazy enough to kidnap a white woman and her daughter.

What the fuck, lady?!

LOSERS

T.I. (TIP) 17.43 -3.33 -16.04%

The rapper showed up late for the first day of his year and one day sentence.  He'll come out of this okay, we're certain, but it's never a good thing to see another young black man go to jail.

All that being said... I doubt THESE GUYS will be serving time in the near future...

See -- Second Amendment rights...

The Phillies may have been the last team in the National League to integrate (ten years after Jackie Robinson -- which is no small reason why the club was the first professional team to break the 10,000 loss threshold), but now the they're back in the World Series.  And they're being led by two African-American MVPs in Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins.

This in a day and age when black players make up just 8.2% of the league (the lowest level in over two decades).  Let's hope for those two, and for the sake of a city that would murder for a championship, that the title makes its way back to the City of Brotherly love for the first time in 28 years.

C'mon... don't make us beg. Losing Iverson was tough enough.

The single greatest Olympic moment... and it doesn't even happen on a field of play.

A necessary shot in the arm after the Summer of '68.
