Kudos to the Delaware Department of Transportation for covering its ass... er, I mean, putting out a handy diversity memo highlighting "workplace faux pas".  We needed a good laugh.

Thank you gawker.com

The report advises employees to stay clear of statements such as:
  • Should we order fried chicken or watermelon for you?

  • I am not prejudiced against black people, my neighbors are black.

All that's missing such gems as: "Is it true what they say about black guys", "Can I touch your hair?" and, a personal favorite, "Hey, you're from Philadelphia, do you know Will Smith?

The scary thing, though, is that there are people who really do need to be told this kind of stuff.

Sigh

Analysts here like the Obama Administration's about-face when it comes to considering prosecution for those who authorized the "enhanced interrogation" techniques used during the Bush presidency.

Now that you think about it... that show was a little messed up.

Damon Owens and the National Organization for Marriage

Not only is this ad ridiculous, but it's filled with inaccuracies.

The video that Owens needs to see.

A recent study shows that African-Americans are far more optimistic about the state of the economy than the rest of the population.  Hmmm, you don't say...

Still making this song and this video, huh... maybe "optimistic" isn't the right word.  Perhaps "unrealistic" is the shoe that fits.

Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun", Broadway's first play written by a black woman (and its first play directed by a black director), debuts.

It would be Hansberry's best known work and the feature film would be released two years later.

Hat tip to Undercover Blackman for keeping me from forgetting this anniversary.

The market recoups most of yesterday's losses on news that President-Elect Obama is getting to work early in order to slow down the financial crisis.

A pitch perfect music documentary capturing a time, not long after the Civil Rights Movement, when Dr. King's dream seemed to be getting further away, rather than closer.

"I Am... Sasha Fierce"

No one here has heard the album, so we have no idea if it's any good.  Although analysts here will admit to feeling as though Beyonce's songs of late always sound like she's mad at someone.

Alright girl, damn.

However, it's never a good sign when you feel that you're on the part of your career trajectory when you feel it's necessary to re-invent yourself through a fictional alter-ego.

Never a good idea... but often hilarious.

Next thing you know you're changing your name to an unpronouncible symbol.

Sigh...

While analysts aren't surprised to find that race will play a role in the upcoming presidential election, a recent Associated Press poll lead to revelations that rocked the market.

Fewer than one in five white Republicans were willing to describe blacks as either determined, law abiding or dependable.  White Democrats fared better, but not much.

George Bush has company.

Market experts had been bullish following Barack Obama's winning the Democratic nomination and his subsequent lead in national polls.  However, these numbers paint a sobering picture about where we are today with regards to white attitudes about blacks.

"Not you Condi, you're one of the good ones."

Capital Punishment

President Bush has authorized the execution of a prisoner sentenced to death by court marshall in 1988.  While the move makes Bush the first Commander in Chief in over fifty years to sign such a death warrant, analysts hardly find it surprising, considering the president's experience sending soldiers to their deaths.

Yeah, that's Dick Cheney behind him.
