We at the Index apologize for the timing of our posts, but it's been a long week of moving and work. Normal posting will resume Monday.

WINNERS

LeBron James (LBJ6) 17.48 +2.39 +13.67%

You've probably heard about his plummeting Q rating (the industry standard for measuring an athlete's familiarity and appeal). According to The Q Scores Co., for non-blacks, LeBron's positive Q rating went from 18 percent in January to 10 percent in September and, more telling, his negative Q rating went from 24 percent to 44. Nearly half of the non-blacks in this country don't like the dude. Meanwhile, LeBron's positive Q rating among blacks went from 52 percent in January to 39 -- a noticeable drop -- but his negative Q rating barely budged, going from 14 percent to 15. Among African-Americans, says The Q Scores Co. executive vice president Henry Schafer, the shift in opinion was mostly to neutral.

Once again the American judicial system validates the murder of young black men by people in uniform. As much as we never thought we'd see a black president, living to see a day when black life isn't valued as less than just doesn't seem like it's going to happen at times.

In addition we don't like the way the protests over the Oscar Grant verdict got more play than the decision itself. Particularly since a fucking BART transit cop killed an unarmed, handcuffed man and was only convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Talk about burying the lede. Thank God for the perspective of the Rachel Maddow Show.

LAPD arrested a suspect they believe is the "Grim Sleeper" serial killer, who over two decades murdered ten African-Americans in South Los Angeles. Didn't hear about it... probably because the suspects name isn't LeBron. Way to go media!

Hey, did you hear Tyson Gay broke a 44-year-old 200m record positioning himself as a potential rival to track-and-field superstar Usain Bolt? You didn't? Is that because it's a sports related story that has nothing to do with LeBron James? Yeah, that's gotta be it.

From Lawrence Taylor to the passing of Lena Horne, let's just say this week coming to an end is enough reason to celebrate.

If Thursday night was James' last game in a Cavs jersey we'll be seeing the city of Cleveland make this list soon, too.

First LeBron doesn't shake the hands of the Orlando Magic upon losing the NBA Eastern Conference Finals and now he and/or Nike confiscate a video of him being dunked on at his own camp.

Perhaps the pressure to win is getting to King James.

Here in the blog-o-sphere there's been lamenting and gnashing of teeth over the cancelation of two black sit-coms (The Game and Everybody Hates Chris -- never mind the facts that those shows were low-rated and had run for a combined 152 episodes in a day and age when even a Friends spin-off wasn't long for this world).  And there's great skepticism about whether or not Fox's Brothers will resurrect the black family sit-com.

Let's see... Chill Mitchell, CCH Pounder, the NFL Single Season Sack Leader and Apollo Creed.  Sure.  Why not?

But perhaps we're looking in the wrong place for comedy.  At least that's what it seems as some recent commercials have seemed sharper and funnier than anything we've seen on the air in a while.

You know you're doing good for yourself when you inherit a team with King LeBron James.  Now word that the Celtics' Kevin Garnett will miss the entire post-season leaves a trip to the NBA Finals all but there for the taking.

Heck of a job Brownie.  No, seriously.  We mean that.  Good work.

We here at the Index fall into the camp of those who believe that paying your taxes is patriotic (after all, they go to paying for a lot of the shit which make this country so great... like roads, security, etc.).  So naturally when two big names end up on the list of California's biggest tax scofflaws -- they make the loser's list.  Sorry guys.

You'd think one of your "friends" would have given you the heads-up about needing to pay your taxes Dionne.

The term "Veepstakes".  While it's true that Barack Obama has a difficult decision to make, the weight being placed on his choice and the speculation involved in the cable news coverage far exceeds the actual value of any Vice Presidential candidate.

"Let's see, I need someone who'll help me carry Ohio, Florida or one of the southern states."

"No, they have to be white."

"Let's try for someone with a little more experience -- someone older."

"How about someone who didn't own slaves?"

"Fuck it -- just get me Evan Bayh on the phone"
