The Index ends the week on an up-note, spurred by the thought of not having to hear about "Obama's First 100 Days" anymore.

You know what was pretty much as bad as slavery?  The next hundred years after slavery, as Douglas A. Blackmon's Pulitzer Prize winning book, Slavery by Another Name, points out.

Sorry ladies, but unfortunately it looks as though black women, along with Asian men, are the demographics that have the hardest time dating online.  How do we remedy this...

Very interesting...

The Market is skeptical, to say the least, that BET's plan to launch another network, BET Centric, aimed at African-American adults, will do anything to improve the quality of programming .

Don't they realize they ARE the problem when it comes to quality African-American programming?

Maybe it's just nostalgia or a just a sign that we're getting older, but analysts here are feeling the forced retirement of Dikembe Mutombo last night.

Analysts here like the Obama Administration's about-face when it comes to considering prosecution for those who authorized the "enhanced interrogation" techniques used during the Bush presidency.

Now that you think about it... that show was a little messed up.

SELL

Damon Owens and the National Organization for Marriage

Not only is this ad ridiculous, but it's filled with inaccuracies.

From whether or not Barack Obama is "black enough" to the recent Washington Post story about the gap between blacks on whether or not to be critical of the President, no story shows the mainstream media's belief of monolithic black thought quite like the black intellectual schism story.

What's so wrong with diversity of thought?  I'll bring it up at the next meeting.

You know you're doing good for yourself when you inherit a team with King LeBron James.  Now word that the Celtics' Kevin Garnett will miss the entire post-season leaves a trip to the NBA Finals all but there for the taking.

Heck of a job Brownie.  No, seriously.  We mean that.  Good work.

We here at the Index fall into the camp of those who believe that paying your taxes is patriotic (after all, they go to paying for a lot of the shit which make this country so great... like roads, security, etc.).  So naturally when two big names end up on the list of California's biggest tax scofflaws -- they make the loser's list.  Sorry guys.

You'd think one of your "friends" would have given you the heads-up about needing to pay your taxes Dionne.

News that statistics showing that the rate of blacks in state prisons has dropped 22% over the past decade boosts the Index.

That being said, the Washington Post goes as far as to link the drop to the recent shift in drug culture from crack cocaine to methamphetamines -- which leads analysts here to conclude that a serious re-examination of drug policy is still necessary.
