Bsi 2,109.06 +9.84 +.47%

A historic week closes with another day of gains.

WINNERS

Barack Obama  (BHO) 286.31 +21.39 +7.47%

If there ever was a Blue Chip stock on this Index, this is it.

Of course, now the party's over.  And the real work begins.

LOSERS

Elizabeth Alexander  (EA44) .13 -.02 -13.33%

Alexander is here less for percentage lost as much as squandered gains.  The writer of the inaugural poem, "Praise Song for the Day", the Yale professor had an opportunity to stamp her name into the consciousness of a population that largely ignores her discipline.

Oh well, maybe she'll get it right the next time a black man or woman gets elected president.  Start holding breath... now!

Instead, her rather clumsy, uninspired verses failed to garner any attention outside of derision from those who still find solace and inspiration in poetry.

The Index sees a bump as a result of the recent Academy Award nominations for Taraji P. Henson and Viola Davis.

She's baaaaaack!

Perhaps later generations will look back at the past few months and see an optimism bubble fueled this bull run in Black Market.  A sort of "irrational exuberance" that will lead to insurmountable expectations.

We certainly hope not, as both analysts and those invested bask in the afterglow of one of the most monumental moments in Black American history.

Although we never had a problem with the first cover, we see that this, in NBA parlance, is a "make-up call".

BUY

Black Dynamite

The Blaxploitation spoof starring Michael Jai White sells to Sony for $2 million at Sundance and is all but assured a theatrical release.

SELL

Obama Merchandise

From commemorative coins to t-shirts to bobbleheads, merchants have used Obama themed swag to make it through a rough business cycle.

Yeah, "madness" is about right.

Now, though, he has the job and he's going to become less of an icon and a lot more human very quickly.
