What started out as a slow post-holiday week kicked up yesterday, but finds its way back to normal on this Friday.

If there's any channel that's made an effort to tell a variety of black stories, this is it.  We all know about The Wire and their documentaries, but increasingly we've been impressed by their sports shows like Hard Knocks, 24-7 and Real Sports, which all do great jobs of showing us the characters behind the athletes we root for every weekend.

It's still TV, but it's pretty damn great.

Our deepest condolences.

Maybe we're wrong.  Maybe the adaptation won't suck.  Yeah, we wouldn't bet on it either.

Lest you forget that this man is Jackie Robinson-ing it everyday and since we've been keeping score this week, add heckling the POTUS to the list of things now deemed patriotically appropriate by the Right.

Joe Wilson definitely gets the gasface!

All this is a sign of the cognitive dissonance going on in the GOP.  He may be President, but they won't hesitate to treat him like a nigger.

Again, we have no problem with dissent, but these are the same people who'd be ready to cry treason had this happened anytime over the past eight years.

All that being said, we need a public option.  You're never going to fix health care if it's run by companies who only make money by denying coverage.

As fight fans it's hard to see the depths to which our heroes fall when out of the spotlight.

Oh, Evander.  Why?

If the Van Jones incident teaches us anything, it's that there's no good reason for decent, well-meaning people to get into politics.

Don't know much, but we found this shit to be kinda funny.*

Among the things "real Americans" have seemed to turned their backs on, like supporting the president in wartime, education takes a hit when the president's black.

For those keeping score... Education: no longer a family value.

*We know some people will not see the humor, but that's just how comedy works.
