Vanity Fair is just one of the many to question/ponder the actress/comedian's Oscar pitch (or lack thereof). But we applaud Mo'Nique's, whose honesty exposes the fact that Hollywood award season is as much about kissing the right rings as it is talent.

We won't get on Chris Matthews for what he said the other night. We get what he was going for. But, as Ta-Nehisi Coates so eliquently put it:

Ditto for Chris Matthews. The "I forgot Obama was black" sentiment allows the speaker the comfort of accepting, even lauding, a black person without interrogating their invented truth. It allows the speaker a luxurious ignorance--you get to name people (this is what black is) even when you don't know people. In fact, Chris Matthews didn't forget Barack Obama was black. Chris Matthews forgot that Chris Matthews was white.

First, people are allowed to define themselves however they choose (an exercise Mr. McWorter is clearly indulging in). But second, since Africa isn't a country, what's wrong with calling Nigerian, Senagalese, Egyptian, etc. immigrants by their country of origin? You know, like we do Irish, Italian and German Americans.

African-American may not be a perfect term to describe the sons and daughers of slaves, but its the one we've chose. So it's fine by us.

Are we really post-racial, America? Yeah, we're pretty sure the answer is "no."
Additionally, Caucasians and Hispanics are consistently preferred to African-Americans. The probability that a non-African-American baby will attract the interest of an adoptive parent is at least seven times as high as the corresponding probability for an African-American baby.

He's one game away from justifying his decision to sit his starters.

Uh, if they don't let you play at a benefit telethon, maybe you need to reconsider some things.

As football fans we appreciate and understand Prince's enthusiasm. As Prince fans we just wish he'd never made a song about it.

Not saying that's why they lost, but I'm just saying...
