Bad news for Burger King is good news for the BSI as todays gains can be attributed to a Los Angeles City Council proposal that would place a one year moratorium on new fast food restaurants in many of the cities black and Hispanic majority neighborhoods.

The moratorium is designed to halt the further encroachment of cheap, unhealthy restaurant chains into neighborhoods disproportionally affected by incidences of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and other diet related diseases and illnesses.

Fast food titan McDonald's, which has in the past been criticized for specifically targeting the African-American community with race specific advertising, came out against the proposed ban and representatives for the highly profitable Oak Brook, IL franchise denied that the company specifically targets African-American customers.
