It seemed less like a movie than an excuse for Beyonce to sing Etta James songs... and that doesn't even happen 'til an hour into the film.

Makes a better trailer than a movie.

No one here has heard the album, so we have no idea if it's any good.  Although analysts here will admit to feeling as though Beyonce's songs of late always sound like she's mad at someone.

However, it's never a good sign when you feel that you're on the part of your career trajectory when you feel it's necessary to re-invent yourself through a fictional alter-ego.

Never a good idea... but often hilarious.

While there are those who believe a superhero movie starring a black woman, of all things, would be cause for the market to celebrate, the anxiety here is a direct result of who they have in mind.  Analysts here can't think of a worse candidate.
