Traditionally when black leaders call their people out on disturbing behavior it's a message confined to the community.  Particularly when these words are spoken at an NAACP event.  However, when that leader also happens to be the leader of the Free World -- well, let's just say that gets people talking.

We've been here before.  During the campaign Obama was criticized for taking on problems in the black community in a public forum.  We here at the Index though are taking the less cynical approach, for the moment, and take the president's latest comments as genuine concern from an African-American with a pulpit rather than a political gambit (fingers crossed).

The black marriage crisis hits romantic comedy heights as NBA star Richard Jefferson cancels his wedding to former New Jersey Nets dance team member Kesha Ni'Cole Nichols after committing $2 million to the extravaganza.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.  I'm sure her heart's broken.  But just watch her parlay this into a reality show.

Obama's new top doc, Regina Benjamin, bouies the Index.  We only hope that she has the courage and integrity of her Clinton-era predecessor, Joycelyn Elders and we, as a nation, have matured enough to hear the truth.

So crazy-ass LaToya thinks her brother was murdered.  Sigh.  If it were someone else we might chalk it up to grief, but we have a feeling this Jackson's just trying to stay in the limelight a touch longer.

Joe... LaToya... Michael may not have been the craziest Jackson.

Intrepid children of color attempt to break stereotypes by venturing into chlorinated water and what do they get for their trouble but a big old heap of old school Philly racism.
"There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club," John Duesler, President of The Valley Swim Club said in a statement.
This coming from the guy trying to defend the action.  Holy shit.  And this AFTER they paid to be there.  Guess American doesn't only see green anymore after all.

This is the town where the black mayor dropped a bomb on black people, so I can't say that anything surprises me anymore.
